Starlight Glimmer is a unicorn pony who first appears as the main antagonist of the season five premiere and finale of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and as a reformed supporting character and student of Twilight Sparkle in season six onward.

Due to her role as the leader of her equality village, Starlight is sometimes depicted as a tyrant or dictator. Due to some associations of "equality" with Communism, she is sometimes portrayed as being affiliated with Communism.[specify]

Starlight Glimmer is sometimes shipped with her childhood friend Sunburst[specify] or with one of her former followers, Double Diamond.[specify] She is also sometimes shipped with Twilight Sparkle or with Trixie following their becoming friends in No Second Prances.
In non-romantic fan labor, Starlight Glimmer is sometimes grouped together with Trixie, Sunset Shimmer, and Moon Dancer, considered to be Twilight's counterparts due to their similarities to her.[citation needed]
