Maud Pie is the sister of Pinkie Pie who makes a cameo in a picture in Pinkie Pride and is featured in Maud Pie. She later attends the Grand Galloping Gala as Pinkie's guest in Make New Friends but Keep Discord. Her human counterpart appears briefly in My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks, in which she and the human Pinkie live together.

Maud Pie is sometimes shipped with Tom because of her love of rocks. She has also been shipped with Trixie due to Trixie's working at the Pie family rock farm. In several crossover fanarts with the television show Gargoyles, she is also shipped with the character Brooklyn due to him literally being living stone.
In The Infinite Loops (a series in which most universes have a section of time repeating; in MLP's case, the events depicted in the series, starting with seasons 1-3 and later expanding as additional material was released), Maud (who is not looping) meets, falls in love with, and marries the Tree of Harmony in at least one loop (77.4), which also depicts her as having formerly been in a relationship with Tom the boulder, but broke it off with him. In another loop (93.4), she falls in love with a stone golem Trixie had created via a spell from the world of Slayers.
