I was editing this page, and in checking the author's name, I realized he had two different pen-names! Now, they were quite similar (in that the only difference was the sequence of 4 numbers at the end), but it raised an interesting question: in the event that a fan fiction is posted to different sites by the same author, and said author should happen to have different pen-names on those sites, which site should take priority? I was thinking it should be as follows:

  1. Fimfiction pen-name
  2. Fanfiction.net pen-name
  3. Deviantart pen-name
  4. Equestria Daily/Google Docs/Other

And of course, should the author ever happen to stumble across the page, they should be able to decide which name they are called by. But what do you think? -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 06:05, April 14, 2012 (UTC)

This goes beyond just writers, actually, so a ranking of fanfic repositories would fall short. Many people's YouTube accounts don't match other pseudonyms they're using. WoodenToaster, for instance, used to be known as Glaze (and is still credited as such on the wiki, at least until I can get the article about him finished which is in the works), but his YouTube handle was WoodenToaster, and that stuck so much many people wouldn't recognize the name Glaze anymore. Barring special cases like Mr FacelessJr, the most well-known name should be used. If that can't be determined, then the name the creator is most active under (comments and stuff). In this case, the writer seems to sign comments as just Thunderhawk; since we don't have a different Thunderhawk on the wiki currently he could be confused with without the string of numbers, I see no problem using that. A theoretical author page should of course mention all aliases, much like the musician and artist pages do now. --Tulipclaymore 17:47, April 14, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I was thinking about that last night, and I think Authors should have their aliases, while everywhere else on the wiki, they should go by one set name. Their most popular name (or the one they're most active under) seems to be a good criterion. -- This is Jonny Manz, signing off! 21:40, April 14, 2012 (UTC)
