I have whirl’d with the earth at the dawning,
When the sky was a vaporous flame;
I have seen the dark universe yawning,
Where the black planets roll without aim;
Where they roll in their horror unheeded,
without knowledge or lustre or name
- Nemisis, H.P. Lovecraft.
Astral Projection is a forbidden magical subject available only to ascended Alicorns such as the Celestial Sisters. However, Twilight sparkle manages to find a book on the very subject while perusing a rather peculiar bookstore in Manehattan.
Being the curious intellectual she is, Twilight begins to experiment with this clandestine magic and ends up becoming separated from her body and must find a way to traverse the astral realms and find a way to return before it is too late.

Into the Lair of the Sun God by Dawnbringer - It could be noted that this album takes a journey through the captivating epoch of a warrior who has become obsessed by a notion that he must murder the sun. Similar to the tale of Telemachus in Homer's Odyssey, this assassin's quest for vengeance blinds him to the truth right before his eyes. His quest is a futile one and only in the end does he realize that his folly was pride, regret, and self-loathing in several haunting visions. - source heaviestofart
Crack the Skye by Mastodon - There is a paraplegic and the only way that he can go anywhere is if he astral travels. He goes out of his body, into outer space and a bit like Icarus, he goes too close to the sun, burning off the golden umbilical cord that is attached to his solar plexus. So he is in outer space and he is lost, he gets sucked into a wormhole, he ends up in the spirit realm and he talks to spirits telling them that he is not really dead. So they send him to the Russian cult, they use him in a divination and they find out his problem. They decide they are going to help him. They put his soul inside Rasputin's body. Rasputin goes to usurp the czar and he is murdered. The two souls fly out of Rasputin's body through the crack in the sky(e) and Rasputin is the wise man that is trying to lead the child home to his body because his parents have discovered him by now and think that he is dead. Rasputin needs to get him back into his body before it's too late. But they end up running into the Devil along the way and the Devil tries to steal their souls and bring them down ... there are some obstacles along the way - source Wikipedia

Fungi from Yoggoth - XXI. Nyarlathotep - And at the last from inner Egypt came The strange dark One to whom the fellahs bowed; Silent and lean and cryptically proud, And wrapped in fabrics red as sunset flame. Throngs pressed around, frantic for his commands, But leaving, could not tell what they had heard; While through the nations spread the awestruck word
That wild beasts followed him and licked his hands. Soon from the sea a noxious birth began; Forgotten lands with weedy spires of gold; The ground was cleft, and mad auroras rolled Down on the quaking citadels of man. Then, crushing what he chanced to mould in play, The idiot Chaos blew Earth’s dust away.
